Imagine Alloa: Community Involvement

Local people are being encouraged to get involved in Imagine Alloa and take advantage of a variety of artistic opportunities available, for example
- learn techniques of clay or glass,
- learn traditional skills,
- pass on your own traditional arts and crafts skills,
- visit artists while work is being made for 'your town',
- watch demonstrations of glass blowing,
- be part of a public art residency programme, learning new skills and making your own art
- attend arts events,
- support your local traders by going to visit their art projects,
- support your town, talk about it, pass news on!
Community projects
Some community projects which have taken place or are taking place are listed below:
WISH and WAG
Women in Sport and Health (WISH) and Women and Girls (WAG) groups have learned a host of arts and crafts in weekly classes at The Make Room.
At their Peak
A group designed to give young men some valuable life skills, the Peak Group, have been learning wood carving skills in advance of a trip to a Bulgarian orphanage.
Whins group
People from the Whins Resource Centre in Alloa are putting their creative talents to the test every Friday at The Make Room, working with acrylics on canvas.
Town Centre Christmas Window Displays
During November, local company Retro Glass hosted a series of community workshops to create hand-made glass stars and snowflakes for town centre shop window displays.
Classes were led by national artist Jane Reid and several local groups took part in the project.
Local school children who made a star wrote their Christmas wish on a tag which was attached to their artwork for people to read.
