Mini Motorcycles, Scramblers and Quad Bikes
Although these machines can be fun, it must be remembered that they can be dangerous if used irresponsibly. Because these vehicles are in some cases smaller than the real thing, this does not mean that falling from them means less severe injuries. Injuries sustained are very often serious, and on occasion fatal. They can be noisy andcause distress to residents and dog walkers as well as damaging to the land they are used on.
This problem is recognised by the Scottish Government and provision to deal with this issue is included in the Antisocial Behaviour etc (Scotland) Act 2004. These measures allow Police to issue formal warnings for illegal use of these machines to first offenders and subsequently to seize the vehicle for a further offence.
Riders must ensure they have written permission from the landowner before using their motor vehicles.
Community Wardens have had some success in dealing with this issue, and in a joint operation (Operation Violet) with Central Scotland Police in 2006, succeeded in reducing complaints regarding mini-motos by 84%. This led to the joint Police/Warden team being awarded the Conveners Award at the annual Central Scotland Police Awards Ceremony.
The Wardens continue to keep their eyes and ears open for instances of this type of anti-social behaviour which can have a serious affect on the quality of life for local residents.
Anyone suffering from the nuisance of mini-motos in their area should contact us using the details below with information on when and where it occurs.
