Roars Not Whispers!
Clackmannanshire young people make their voices heard!
This year has seen two young people, local to Alloa, become actively involved in a range of social issues.
Chanel Alexander has described her experience as, '... Amazing! It has made me realise my potential and discover that I'm passionate about helping others in my community. Roars not Whispers has given me the confidence to approach different groups and people in authority ... I've met a lot of fantastic people and I've enjoyed the training and work that I have taken part in'.
To Arran Smith Roars not Whispers has been, '... a project that has helped develop me into a more confident person. It has helped me realise that there are things that I feel strongly about and that I can actually make a change to with other young people who feel the same'.
Chanel and Arran took part in the CIVICUS World Assembly held at the SECC, Glasgow where they spoke to other young people from around the world about what they are doing to make a difference which was a whole new experience in itself.
Both Arran and Chanel have also been involved with a group of young people who, like them, feel there is nothing to do. They have got together to work on getting a double-decker bus and will renovate it into a mobile youth centre that will go to a different town or village every night giving young people at least one place they can go to each week.
More recently they took part in an event in Paisley for World Aids Day where, together with other young people from across the country, they completed workshops and were involved in discussions on issues concerning Aids.
