Clackmannanshire in Europe
Europe plays an important role in a wide range of day-to-day activities and, despite its size, Clackmannanshire is influencing national and international policy through its participation in European affairs.
The European flag or similar logo is seen throughout the county wherever funding has been obtained from Europe. The business parks at Dumyat and New Alloa, the refurbishment of Coalsnaughton Village Hall, Inglewood House and Alloa Tower, training projects including New Approaches and Accessing the Community as well as a range of business advice and support projects have all received European funding support in recent years. But that’s not the whole story.
Clackmannanshire Council is an active member of the East of Scotland European Consortium (ESEC), a grouping of 14 local authorities which seek to influence European policy on a wide range of issues. Through its membership of ESEC, the Council has obtained key positions in the various European partnerships in Scotland, helping to shape national and regional European policy.
The Council also participates directly in the decision-making process of Brussels itself. Council staff visit the European Commission whenever necessary to lobby on behalf of Clackmannanshire.
