This review has taken a considerable period during which stability and effectiveness have been established in a service which was seriously affected by the problems of transition and local government reorganisation. Managers are however now well advanced in the completion of their action plans.
The highlights of this review include:
- benchmarking evidence which shows the service to be cost effective
- significant increases in reliability and reduced error rates
- a widespread consultation exercise, with a commitment to further consultation work
- closer cross service working, particularly with Personnel
After some difficulties in the early stages, it is fair to conclude that this review reflects a developing and continuing commitment to improvement in public service.
