Primary Pupils Talk Business at Tilly Tearoom

Wednesday 21st December 2011

Budding entrepreneurs from Tillicoultry Primary School were this week served business advice on a plate, as Nora Gilfillan owner of the Tilly Tearoom talked them through the practicalities of running a business.

Both P6 classes have been looking at creating a business around their Christmas Fayre product - bath bombs - with pupils working in teams investigating the marketing and financing of the product.

Individuals took on specific roles, including finance officers, project managers, marketing executives and market researchers and the culmination of their efforts was a Dragon's Den-style presentation.

Councillor George Matchett, Inclusion portfolio holder, said, "This was a tremendous project for the pupils to work on. It gave them hands-on, real life experience as they learned about aspects such as profit and loss, how to market a product and how to work to deadlines. The icing on the cake was the visit to the Tilly Tearoom and hearing from Nora."
