It's time for local people to nominate someone they know who has been there for others in times of need or who helps out in our communities for the Clackmannanshire Citizen of the Year award.

The winner of the award, which is sponsored by the Lord Lieutenant's Trust, will be announced at a ceremony in March.

The Council is also looking for nominations for Young Citizen of the Year, a category which is being awarded for the fifth year. Young Citizen of the Year provides an opportunity to recognise an inspirational local person, under the age of 25, who has enriched the lives of others or has been selfless in their actions.

This is the 14th year that the Provost of Clackmannanshire will host the ceremony to recognise the dedication and commitment that local people make to help improve the quality of life throughout the county.

Provost Derek Stewart said: "At the many events I attend as Provost, I am privileged to see the impressive efforts that dedicated and selfless people make to ensure that our residents enjoy improved lives and opportunities.

"These people often work away with little recognition or thanks, and these awards are a chance for all of us to take the time to put those efforts in the spotlight. So I'd encourage everyone in our communities throughout Clackmannanshire to take a few minutes to nominate someone for Citizen or Young Citizen of the Year."

Keith Turner is the current Citizen of the Year and received this accolade in recognition of his work over 30 years to improve the lives of people in his local community in Sauchie.

Calum Gullen is the current Young Citizen of the Year, and was recognised for his volunteer work at Rachel House Hospice and his work as an Autism ambassador at Alva Academy.

Nomination forms are available on ClacksWeb with the closing date for nominations is 27th January 2017. Further information is available by calling 01259 450000 or by emailing memberservices@clacks.gov.uk
