What to consider before starting consultation work

Prior to starting consultation work, you should consider the following:

  • What is the purpose of the consultation/what do you want to achieve?
  • Are there other service areas that are currently/previously consulting on the same/similar issues? (Check consultation database for information).
  • What resources do you have available, eg staff time and financial resources?
  • Do you have access to the necessary skills?
  • Who will analyse the data?
  • Who do you want to consult with (target group)?
  • What is the best method for consulting with your target group?
  • When is the best time to carry out the consultation? Avoid holiday periods or period leading up to Christmas.
  • What advice can the Research and Information team give you?
