Blue Bins

In 2009 we introduced a new blue bin collection.
Why the change?
A recent poll of the council's citizens' panel showed that householders 'wanted a greater range of household waste to be recycled and to have more secure storage space for their waste.'
These changes allow Clackmannanshire Council to meet its obligations to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. More information on this, is available from the Local Waste Plan page.
These items can go in your blue bin
- Cardboard
- cereal boxes
- cardboard packaging
- brown corrugated cardboard
- cardboard boxes
- toilet roll tubes
- Cans and tins
- aluminium and steel
- Plastic bottles
- both coloured and clear
- Food and drinks cartons
- eg tetrapak
- Empty aerosols
- no lids please
- Paper
- envelopes (including window envelopes)
- magazines
- newspapers
- office paper
- yellow pages
- brochures
- catalogues
- leaflets
Please use the blue bin to recycle as many of these materials as often as possible.
As well as increasing the amount of materials that are collected, we also want to continue to collect good quality, clean materials for recycling. This helps to maintain good markets for recycling both at home and abroad.
Do not put these items into your blue bin:
- Plastic bags, wrappings or cellophane - these can go in your green bin
- Glass bottles and jars - these can go into your blue box
- General waste - these can go in your green bin
When is my blue bin emptied?
The blue bin will be collected every two weeks on the same day as the blue box. Please refer to your calendar to find out when that is.
Maximise Your Space
- Please check to make sure that only material that can be recycled is put in your blue bin
- Please wash and squash all bottles
- Flat pack all boxes
- Bulk buy where appropriate on longer life items e.g. a larger box of cereal will produce less packaging than the equal volume spread over smaller boxes. It should be cheaper too!
- Buy concentrated products in smaller bottles but read the instructions carefully to make sure you use the product properly
- Reuse plastic tubs for pack lunches, home freezing and general home storage
- Look for products that can be refilled or returned
More hints and tips are available on the positive packaging web site.
