Public Health

The Safety Health Environment Team uses the provisions of the Environmental Protection Act 1990to investigate and take action to resolve public health nuisances including odours, drainage problems, insanitary premises, smoke and fumes, etc.

Officers from the SHE team investigate complaints and enquiries to establish if the source of the complaint is causing a Statutory Nuisance. The officers have legal powers to prevent the nuisance occurring or continuing if the matter cannot be resolved informally.

An increasing problem is that of abandoned vehicles, and arrangements are also made to remove and dispose of these vehicles although this can take some time. If these vehicles are causing road safety problems Central Scotland Police should be contacted on 01259 723255. Otherwise abandoned vehicles can be reported using our Environmental Health on-line service.

More than 13,000 people die every year from the effects of tobacco, it is estimated about 1,000 of these people have never smoked during their lifetime. In the interests of public health no smoking premises are monitored by authorised officers from Environmental Services who may enter any no smoking premises to ensure compliance with the legislation.

If you wish to complain regarding smoking within no smoking premises please contact us at smokefree@clacks.gov.uk or by telephoning 01259 450000.
