Biodiversity

Biodiversity is life in all its forms. Clackmannanshire boasts an impressive range of wildlife that is not restricted to the open countryside, it thrives in our urban areas too.

The Clackmannanshire Biodiversity Partnership and its members have worked on a number of projects over the past
year, both practical and educational.

BOOLS (Barn Owls Of Lowland Scotland) Project

This project has provided nesting boxes throughout the county and worked to encourage landowners to manage suitable habitat for small mammals, the barn owl's staple diet. To date 15 nest boxes have been installed in Clackmannanshire with young raised in 5 of them last season.

Fish go to School

This educational project is in its third year and all primary schools in the county have now had the opportunity to take part. The project introduces pupils to river ecology and the impacts of peoples actions upon the river environment. This project requires pupils to raise brown trout eggs until they are ready for release into local burns.
