We believe every household in our area should have access to a good quality and affordable home that meets their needs.
We manage the Council's housing stock, including meeting demand for accommodation from homeless people.
Beyond simply taking care of Council housing, we also invest heavily in programmes to upgrade council homes, including the kitchen renewal initiative for all council homes and a door replacement scheme.
Increasingly, our role is being expanded to include work with private sector homes, but we continue to work closely with tenants who are actively involved in many of the decisions the Service takes.
Scottish Housing Regulator
The new Scottish Housing Regulator goes live.
On 2nd of April 2012 the new independent Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) assumed its full regulator powers.
SHR has just one statutory objective to safeguard and promote the interests of current and future tenants of social landlords, people who are or may become homeless, and people who use housing services provided by registered social landlords (RSLs) and local authorities.
The main regulatory focus of the SHR will be to monitor and assess landlords' performance against the introduction of Scottish Social Housing Charter, which also went live on the 2nd of April 2012. The regulator will achieve this by regulatory assessments, published analysis and thematic work.
