Cleanliness Standards for Council Closes

The following information details tenants' obligations to clean their close.

Close inspections are carried out on a regular basis by Housing Services.

First floorFloor and stairs should be swept and mopped once a weekFirst floor tenantsThis should be done on a rota basis
Second floorFloor and stairs should be swept and mopped once a weekSecond floor tenantsThis should be done on a rota basis
Third floorFloor and stairs should be swept and mopped once a weekThird floor tenantsThis should be done on a rota basis
Close windows and ledgesWindows and ledges should be washed once per monthAll tenantsThis should be done on a rota basis arranged by tenants on your floor
Communal areasNo obstruction should be left in the closeAll tenantsAll tenants must ensure stairwells and communal areas are kept clear
Pram stores/drying areasShould be used for the purpose they are intended forAll tenantsAny misuse or defects should be reported to the Council
Door entry systemWhere applicable these should be fully operationalCouncilTenant and Housing officials must report defects

No property (including bicycles, motorcycles, prams or refuse) belonging to you or anyone residing with you or visiting you, should be stored in any of the common parts if it is likely to cause danger, nuisance or annoyance, or if it causes obstruction to anyone using the common parts.

You must not do anything which prevents or hinders the use of the common parts by the other users.
