Attendance and Welfare Team

There are three Schools' Attendance and Welfare Officers in post in Clackmannanshire. Each Attendance Officer covers one of the three secondary schools and its associated primary schools.

The Attendance Officers are responsible for improving the attendance of school age pupils in Clackmannanshire schools. To do this the Attendance Officer works with the school to identify pupils whose attendance or punctuality is cause for concern.

If a pupil does not attend school and there has been no contact with the parent/carer, the Attendance and Welfare Officer may visit the home to find out the reason for the absence.

Once a pupil is identified the Attendance Officer will liaise with the parent/carer and the child to find out the reason for absence. There are many causes for poor attendance and the Attendance Officer will liaise with Social Work, Psychological Services and any other agency to support the child and his/her parent(s).

The Attendance and Welfare Officer may refer a child to the Reporter to the Children's Panel or a School Attendance Committee for non-attendance at school if the problems persist.

To contact the Attendance and Welfare Officers please telephone 01259 452433 (for Alva Academy cluster), 01259 452465 (for Alloa Academy cluster), 01259 452463 (for Lornshill Academy cluster) or e-mail AWOSupport@clacks.gov.uk.
