Positive Coaching Scotland

What is Positive Coaching Scotland (PCS)?

Positive Coaching Scotland is a new way of encouraging young people to get involved in sport, develop skills in the critical school age years and to stay involved for life, with all benefits that brings.

SportScotland - the national agency for sport - is now leading the national implementation of the PCS programme.

The Winning Scotland Foundation has invested in and developed an innovative partnership with the Stanford University based Positive Coaching Alliance, whose model of sport coaching provides an alternative definition of winning.

It uses elements of the highly-successful Stanford model and rejects the idea of winning at all costs, which is at the heart of many traditional approaches to sports coaching and which puts off many boys and girls so that they drop out of sports completely.

Instead, the scheme says that you win in life and achieve success through increased effort.

That is what is at the heart of what the Sports Development team are introducing to your school as well as the local community via sports clubs. We aim to increase the number of young people taking part in sport, with all the benefits that mentally and physically fit, active and positive pupils enjoy as a result.

Anchored firmly in the curriculum for excellence, the blueprint behind what we teach and what your child learns in school, the programme helps develop skills in

All of these skills benefit children's schoolwork, family life, and ultimately the career and life they will follow after they have left school.

This programme offers children skills for life and about life, and we ask for your support in taking this vital programme forward.
