School Enrolment
The responsibility for a child's education rests with the parent. Most parents choose to discharge this responsibility by enrolling the child in a local authority school.
Generally, children who attend school will go to their local catchment school. You can find the catchment schools (denominational and non-denominational) for your address by using our property database.
P1 Enrolment
All children who have their fifth birthday before 28 February 2013 are of statutory school age and may start education on Tuesday 21 August 2012.
Enrolment of pupils into P1 for the 2012/13 session will take place before Friday 3 February 2012. A reminder to parents will be placed in the local media and most schools, also post reminders in local shops and pre-five establishments. When enrolling your child, you should take your child's birth certificate along with you.

Placing Requests
If you would like to place your child in a school other than the one serving your home address, you should submit a Placing Request using the Placing Request Application Form.
Even if you are planning to make a placing request, please enrol your child at your catchment school, so that a school place is secured for him/her regardless of the outcome of the placing request.
Placing Requests can be accepted throughout the year, but all those for the 2012/13 session that are received before 15 March 2012 must be dealt with before 30 April 2012.
Nursery Enrolment
You can view or download our separate Pre 5 Nursery Enrolment form and guidance notes from this page. The closing date for applications is Friday, 23rd March 2012, however, if you have just moved to the area, you can still apply for a place for your child.
Pre-pre school children
Pre-pre school children who are currently attending a local authority nursery should not complete a new application form if they are returning to the same nursery. Please ask the nursery for a returners form.
