Craigbank Primary was built in 1977 and is almost a two class per year school situated in a town of 6,500 inhabitants. There is another primary school (Deerpark Primary) in the town and we endeavour to promote positive relations between the two schools. There is a variety of housing within the town. The school's catchment zone is generally the area to the west of the A908. It comprises a social mix of private and council housing development.
Craigbank Primary School has a close working relationship with the other cluster schools: Abercromby Primary School, Banchory Primary School, Deerpark Primary School. Fishcross Primary School, St.Serf's Primary School, Sauchie Nursery School and also with Lornshill Academy, the associated secondary. The school regularly welcomes secondary pupils on work experience programmes.
The school building is in three distinct departments. P1-3 has five classrooms, a large resource room which stores the resources required to support the delivery of the P1-3 curriculum, a television room/music room and a large communal area which is used for structured play and to facilitate co-operative learning activities. The P4-7 section of the school is housed in a two storey building which currently has 6 classrooms in use, a resource room, an art room, a library and a computer suite which contains 33 networked computers all with internet access. A further two communal areas are available within this section of the school.
The school is active in raising standards across the curriculum and uses a broad range of strategies and resources to ensure continued success.
The school has an active pupil council made up from P4-P7 pupils. They are responsible for making sure the feelings of their classmates are heard. They raise funds for various charity organisations and recently have had responsibility for raising funds for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation.
We endeavour to establish a meaningful partnership with parents and pupils based on an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect. Parents are encouraged to be involved in their child's education. Our Parent Council meets regularly and is actively involved in a wide range of school issues. We also have a very active PA which organises many successful fundraising events throughout the session.
Whole school assemblies are held fortnightly. A partnership exists with both local churches and our chaplains present our Friday assembly on a rota basis. A positive discipline policy operates in school with a 'House' and 'Golden Time' rewards system encouraging pupils to achieve the highest possible standards of behaviour and attainment.
At Craigbank Primary we aim to provide a high quality of learning and teaching in a happy, quiet, purposeful environment. This is underpinned by the promotion of a positive ethos, where each pupil feels valued and has freedom to learn. An atmosphere of achievement and consideration of the needs of others is promoted with the hope that all pupils will be able to fulfil their true potential.
