Menstrie Primary School was built in 1978 and is a single stream school, situated in a small village of 2,500 inhabitants. The village is made up of a variety of housing with some new building taking place. It is the sole primary school in the village.

Photogtaph - Menstrie Primary SchoolThe school enjoys close working links with Alva Academy and five other associated primary schools: Alva Primary, Coalsnaughton Primary, Muckhart Primary, Strathdevon Primary, Tillicoultry Primary.

The school has a roll of 182 pupils with a 30/30 Nursery Class.

Curricular programmes include:

  • Writing: Developing Writing (North Lanarkshire)
  • Reading: Oxford Reading Tree; Cambridge Reading
  • Mathematics: Improving Primary Mathematics
  • Science: Renfrewshire Science Scheme

The early years are involved in the early intervention programme for language and mathematics.

Relationships between parents and school are good. Parents are encouraged to come in to school to help with various projects and to talk to teachers. Parents and friends are regularly invited to share assemblies and other school events. The PTA organises a variety of fund-raising activities and helps out on many occasions in school.

There is an active Parent Council which meets twice each term and is currently promoting liaison with the parent body.

Students and secondary pupils on work experience are regularly welcomed in to the school.

Circle time is used throughout the school to help maintain our very positive ethos.

There is a pupil council which meets fortnightly to discuss issues of importance to the pupil.

There is an Eco schools committee that meets regularly to discuss an implement improvements to the school environment. The school has recently been awarded its first Green Flag.

Staff are encouraged to take part in the review and development of the School Development Plan on an annual basis, and in the ongoing development of curricular and other policies.
