Park Primary was opened in September 1935. It is housed in a substantial attractive building, set in spacious grounds. Aspects of the building have recently been upgraded. The school has 13 rooms which include a library, a computer suite and areas that can be used for small groups. It also has a gym and a separate dining room. There is a controlled door entry system with appropriate security procedures for all visitors. Extensive grassy areas for sports and a play park border the tarmac playground.
Park Primary School provides education for the SE area of Alloa. Its success is dependent on a partnership between pupils, their parents and the staff. The aim is to create a school community in which effective leraning can take place through the provision of high quality teaching and learning.
A nurture group was established 5 years ago with external funding. The main aim of the group, called the Sunshine Class, is to provide a secure, reliable, small class setting which is responsive to the particular needs of pupils and parents in Primary 1. The Sunshine Class is staffed by two specially trained adults.
In addition to teaching staff, the school benefits from a wide range of committed non teaching staff who form an effective team to meet the needs of all pupils. The team includes: support staff, a home school liaison officer and school care workers. The school also has access to a range of specalist staff including a psychologist, speech and language and occupational therapists and a school nurse. The wide ranging and skilful team works hard to suppport all pupils and parents.
All aspects of learning are planned carefully and are personalised to meet the needs of pupils. Pupils are encouraged to take responsiblity for their own learning. Learning and teaching are monitored and evaluated regularly. Pupil achievements are highly valued and celebrated in school. All of these combine to help pupils to become successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens.
The ethos of the school is based on respect for all members of the school community as well as self respect. Self discipline is encouraged through a focus on pupils accepting responsibility through own actions and encouragement of them to make choices.
The Headtaecher is supported by the Depute Headteacher and the Principal Teacher.
The school enjoys the support of an active and committed PTA. This is an important route to encouraging parental involvement in the life of the school as well as to organise social and fundraising activities.
A range of after school physical activities is provided by the school's physical activities (PHIZ) Co-ordinator who also ensures participation in authority wide sporting events.
