St. Bernadette's Primary School is a semi-open plan building, opened in 1978, set in large playing fields and looking towards Stirling. The school is close to the main Alloa to Stirling road (A907) and has effective bus links with Stirling and Alloa.
The school is a Roman Catholic Primary School. The school is open to children of all faiths, knowing that the school's ethos and relgious teaching is Catholic.
The School has seven classrooms, of which four are permanent class bases and three are activity work areas. The infant area consists of three classrooms opening into a common working area . The middle and senior area similarly consists of a common area surrounded by four classrooms. The School is all on ground level and each classroom has a fire escape that leads directly into the playground.
The School has a main library, which is used by the children. The library is used for research and study, and every child has an opportunity every week to borrow a book. The libraries have been stocked by a combination of Clackmannanshire Council Library issue and books purchased by the PTA and school funds. The replacement, upgrading and increase of stock are an ongoing process.
School meals are provided daily and provision is also made for children who bring pack lunches to school.
The school is equipped with a computer suite and a network of computers throughout the school, all with Internet access, and with a ratio of approximately one PC per three children. All hardware was updated in November 2005. Three classrooms have been fitted with an interactive whiteboard and digital projector.
The school has a large hall that is used for PE and for school meals. This hall is also let in the evenings for clubs and social functions. Each class works with a PE specialist teacher and a music specialist each week.
A large meeting room provides a location for community groups to meet and is also used by the school during the day for parents meetings, by small groups of children for dance etc and for talks or displays. The meeting room is used by Tullibody Out of School Care Group, which meets from 3.00pm to 6.00pm and provide care for children after school hours until parents can collect them. This is an independent group, which uses our hall and meeting room. They can be contacted on 01259 216912.
Support study groups meet every week, covering a variety of interests. There are classes provided by Sports Development. At present these are rugby and cricket.
The School grounds are completely enclosed, with a small tarmac area and a large grassed area. Parking for staff and visitors is available at the other side of the School, is off-road and out of bounds for children.
The School serves the villages of Tullibody, Alva, Glenochil and Menstrie and is closely supported by the Parishes of St Bernadette's (Tullibody), St John Vianney's (Alva) and St Mungo's (Alloa), which serve the same catchment.
Children are provided with free transport from the outlying villages by private bus.
The School receives valued support from a very active School Forum.
Our associated secondary school is St Modan's High in Stirling. Free transport is provided for children to St Modan's. Parents also have the right to transfer their children after P7 to the Clackmannanshire secondary school for their area.
The village of Tullibody has grown over the last forty years. It has few employment opportunities and most of the population has to seek work outwith the village. In recent years there has been several private housing estates completed, with more housing in the process of being built. The village has a small shopping centre, sports centre, health centre and both Church of Scotland and Roman Catholic Parishes.
