Specialist Provision
Clackmannanshire has a range of specialist support to meet the diverse needs of children and young people. In some cases this will involve outreach support from specialist facilities.

Early Years Inclusion Service
The Early Years Inclusion Service provides a range of services to very young children with developmental difficulties and their families. Services provided include assessment, advice, consultation and direct work. Early identification loffers the opportunity for timely involvement and/or focussed teaching. It allows staff to target strengths and develop strategies to enable children to learn.
Support may be put in place:
- In the nursery
- In specialist small group setting
- At home
Referrals to the service are made via the Psychological Service and are received from from parents or carers, nurseries and playgroups, health and social services. Referrals are made after discussion with parents and only with parental consent.

Inclusion Support Service
The Inclusion Support Service is a local resource working flexibly with partner primary schools which aims to provide support for identified children who are at Stage 3 of the Staged Intervention process and whose educational needs are met through an Individual Educational Programme (IEP).
The level and nature of support is determined by the package necessary to include children in school with their peers and to access the mainstream curriculum in ways best suited to their learning style. Some children will require a high level of support at Stage 3 while others may be receiving support on a consultancy or monitoring basis at Stage 2.
In consultation with class teacher children are supported in a variety of ways including targeted individual work, experiential group work, differentiation and adaptation of curricular materials. Based on a model of collaborative integrated working the support teacher, support worker and speech and language therapist work alongside mainstream staff and parents to achieve the joint goal of successful educational and social inclusion.
At P6/7 the service supports a range of children around the transition to secondary school. Parents and pupils are consulted regarding the type of support they feel they require.
The inclusion staff work in collaboration with staff in schools, especially secondary, and possibly external agencies involved with the child to address the needs of these children by providing group work or one-to-one support.
The Inclusion Support Service is based on the campus of Lochies and Deerpark schools.

Sensory Service: Visual Impairment
The teacher of the visually impaired provides educational support for children and young people in a variety of settings. Input will vary depending upon needs. It can range from direct teaching to occasional monitoring. It can be accessed through Staged Intervention.

- Staff development and training
- Early intervention with visually impaired babies
- Supporting visually impaired pupils in various settings
- Family support
- Advice to schools on specialist equipment, technological aids, adaptation of materials, teaching methodologies

Sensory Service: Hearing Impaired
The teacher of the deaf provides educational support for children and young people in a variety of settings. The nature and frequency of support will depend on the needs of the child. It can be accessed through Staged Intervention.
The teacher will work closely with the family and any other professionals involved with the child to ensure that the hearing impaired child is given every opportunity to achieve his/her potential.
The Hearing Impairement Service offers:
- Advice and consultancy
- Staff development and training
- Deaf Awareness Training (for staff and pupils)
- Support for hearing impaired pupils in various settings
- Family support
- Advice to schools on specialist equipment, technological aids, adaptation of materials, teaching methodologies

Primary Schools' Support Service
The Primary Schools' Support Service is a resource which uses flexible and responsive methods to support primary school aged children who experience social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
The main aim of the service is to be proactive in supporting primary-aged children to maintain their placements within mainstream schools. A continuum of support methods and strategies using the minimum intervention necessary has been developed.
The service works closely with families and other agencies.

Secondary Schools' Support Service
The Secondary Schools' Support Service is a resource which uses flexible and responsive methods to support youngsters who have difficulty coping in mainstream education because of social, emotional and behavioural needs.
The main aim of the service is to be proactive in supporting Clackmannanshire's three secondary schools to maintain pupil placements and to offer alternative educational provision for those pupils whose needs cannot be met within the existing support structures in mainstream.
The service works closely with families and other agencies.

Special Schools
Lochies School
Lochies School is a school for primary and nursery aged children with severe /complex additional support needs who require a significant level of individual support.
The school works closely with other agencies to support the pupils and their families.
Speech and Language therapists, an Occupational Therapist and a Physiotherapist working part-time in the school supporting pupils, staff and families with programmes of work linked to their IEPs.
IEPs are written within Curriculum for Excellence guidelines with sensory approaches used for those children who require them.
Movement programmes and out of school clubs are offered by the Home School Link Worker and the Minds and Bodies in Action Co-ordinator.

Alloa Academy Department of Extended ASN
This department within Alloa Academy provides education to secondary aged pupils with severe/complex additional support needs.
All of the young people in the department follow individualised educational programmes corresponding with the guidelines delivered within the elaborated curriculum, Curriculum for Excellence. The young people benefit from experiencing aspects of the mainstream curriculum where appropriate as all participate fully as possible in the life of the school.
Links with the college are well established with pupils undertaking a bridging course in their final years of school prior to moving on to continue their education in the college extension course.
The school works very closely with other agencies to support children and their families.
