Pre-Application Advice

Irrespective of the category or scale of development proposed, the Council always encourages prospective applicants to seek advice before proposals are finalised. This arrangement has the support of a number of statutory agencies, including Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), Historic Scotland, Scottish Water, Architecture And Design Scotland (ADS), all of which stress the value of pre-application discussions.

The business process in the Development Quality Team is structured around the needs of the customer. We have separate planning officers responsible for residential, business and householder developments, and each will be able to provide informal advice on development proposals. This will include the identification of relevant national guidance, development plan policy, any known site history and other information that may be appropriate.

As always, the quality of the information that we receive on the proposal will influence the quality of advice we can provide. It will also ensure that we can provide advice on what additional information may be required.
