Access to Information  Bookmark and Share

The Council continually strives to make information about it’s activities, services, and decision making available to those who wish to have it. Key documents are printed and distributed through libraries, mailing lists, or other routes. Leaflets and other specially written material offers guidance and helps make the Council’s Services more accessible.

The Publication Scheme prepared by the Council provides the outline to the types of information which is freely available. It also confirms the format in which it can be found (e.g. on the Council’s web site, in printed form etc), who to contact to access it, and whether or not there are related costs.

Additionally, there are specific rights individuals have in a number of areas, for example:

  • under the Data Protection Act you have a right to apply for access to personal data about yourself which the Council may hold;
  • in relation to freedom of information , you may ask for access to information from records held by the Council which relate to subjects or topics which are of particular interest to you.
