Ground Source Heat Pump system
Clackmannanshire Council is investigating the use of a ground source heat pump for the Johnstone Centre to provide heat for the swimming pool and the under floor heating for the building.
To determine if this is a viable option it is necessary to carry out a conductivity test by drilling a test bore. This borehole is only 150mm in diameter but will be 150m deep. Once the hole is drilled, it has a flow and return pipe installed then it is backfilled and sealed and the grass reinstated. With this test bore, the heat return will be monitored and from this data the efficiency of a heat pump for the building can be calculated.
It is hoped the figures will show a potential saving in energy costs, based on today's prices, of approx £30,000 annually.
