Integrated Mental Health Day Service - Key Aspects
The existing team comprises of approximately fifty members of staff from varying professional disciplines and backgrounds. This joint approach to mental health care allows us to ensure that services function in a complimentary fashion, that duplication is reduced and the principles of Best Value are promoted.
All services operate as one system with a single goal and offer a collective response to local need. Jointly, flexible support will be offered to assist with difficulties ranging from preventative care to individuals who experience significant mental illness. This Whole System approach will allow us to better identify and respond to areas of greatest demand.
This development is supported significantly by the establishment of Scotland's first Pooled Budget. A pooled budget is an opportunity for partners to amalgamate monies in a discrete fund. Regardless of the contributions committed to the pool by each party, the resource will be used on approved services as set out in the agreement. This means the expenditure will be based on the needs of the service users and not on the level of contribution from each partner. A pooled budget has unique flexibility, whilst bound by agreed aims and objectives.
The premise of the integration is to improve joint working, increase information sharing between agencies, enhance communication and break down barriers between professionals. This allows greater continuity of care, easier access to services and an increased level of user involvement in direct care and service planning. All staff within this arrangement, regardless of employing authority, will work as one team.
