Doors Open Days
Events are held every September throughout Scotland as part of the Council of Europe European Heritage Days. People can visit free of charge places of cultural and historic interest which are not normally open to the public or which usually charge an admission fee. The event aims to encourage everyone to appreciate and help to preserve their built heritage.
Doors Open Days is promoted nationally by The Scottish Civic Trust, the Doors Open Days website and is part sponsored by Historic Scotland.
Our event in 2011 included several new properties as well as a celebration of the bicentenary of Robert Dick, who was born in Tullibody and worked as a baker all his life, yet was also a self-taught botanist and geologist whose research and knowledge were widely respected in academic circles.
Alloa Sheriff Court, Glendevon Burnfoot Hill Wind Farm, Dollar Academy, Devonvale Hall and Glenochil Prison all took part for the first time.
