Clackmannanshire Walking Festival  Bookmark and Share

The second Alva Glen waterfallClackmannanshire Walking Festival took place from Thursday 17th to Monday 21st September 2009.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive with over 220 walkers from all over central Scotland enjoying the county's magnificent scenery, heritage and wildlife. They joined walk leaders on a variety of walks suitable for all ages and abilities.

Clackmannanshire Tourism Ltd, a not for profit organisation aimed at furthering tourism within the county brought together a number of organisations and individuals to organise the exciting event.

Clackmannanshire boasts a dramatic landscape with flat carseland on the north bank of the River Forth and the dominant Ochil Hills. It also has a rich history - in the last three centuries the county has seen the rise and decline of many industries which have left their mark on the landscape. From ship building on the Forth to the mill towns of the Hillfoots there are many stories to tell.

Launch 2008

To celebrate the launch of the first Walking Festival in September 2008, arrangements were made for the rangers, army, mountain rescue and Menstrie scouts to climb thirteen peaks along the Ochils the night before the festival to light flares.
