Free School Meals

If your child is about to start school, you may be eligible for free school meals, clothing and footwear grants. Please see our eligibility criteria below. 

Do you qualify?

If you are in receipt of Child Benefit and one of the following benefits you may be able to claim free school meals for your child:

• Income Support
• Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance
• Any income related element of Employment and Support Allowance
• Child Tax Credit, but not Working Tax Credit, with an income of less than £16,105
• Both Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit with an income of up to £7,330
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• Universal Credit with a monthly earned income of not more than £610

Pupils are eligible in their own right to apply for free school meals if they are aged 16-18 and in receipt of one of the benefits noted above.

Nursery Children - entitlement

Children in nursery aged from 2 years old upwards are eligible for a free school meal under the same eligibility criteria as school children where they attend nursery over the middle of the day (see above). Note that only ABC Nursery currently offers full day provision to 2 year olds.

In addition to the entitlements detailed above there are additional entitlements for nursery children with a parent or carer in receipt of

• State Pension Credit or
• Incapacity and Severe Disablement Allowance

Children who are, or have at any point since their 2nd birthday, been looked after, or the subject of a kinship care or guardianship order are also entitled to a free meal where they attend nursery over the middle of the day.
